Greyton is nestled in the Riviersonderend mountain range. It is the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway. Known as the “Jewel of the Overberg”, Greyton is a year round destination for the whole family. With Greytons thatched roofed cottages and gravel roads, it is a town that seems to be lost in time.
There are a wide range of activities and attractions for the whole family. Horse riding, fishing, bird watching and mountain hiking or mountain biking, even something for those art enthusiasts. The local restaurants offer superb cuisine and there is even a chocolate factory to visit.
The town boasts a number of historical buildings such as St. Andrews Church, The Moravian Church, Smouswinkel and many restored cottages. Every Saturday morning, the town holds the local craft market in the village square. This is an excellent shopping opportunity for the arts and crafts enthusiasts.
Ducks cavorting in the canals and ponds, and donkey carts clattering down the oak-lined streets, are as much a way of life as all the activities that one finds in the town.
The annual Rose Festival is held during October/November and is an experience not to be missed.
Greyton is so removed from the worst aspects of modern life that it is not suprising that the visitor to Greyton is enchanted and never wants to leave. Greyton is renowned for the number of special gatherings. This is a good opportunity for visitors to mingle with the local residents while enjoying their Greyton accommodation.
